The lyrics, inspired by the passing of Dan's close friends hit home. Love the chorus melody and the trombones coming in at the 2:25 mark.Įasy Come Easy Go: This one feels like a warm consoling hug. Love to see Andrew Tolman working with the band again and Wayne with his slick solo. The distinct synth in this song reminds me of some of the peppy Night Visions songs. The guitar part around the 2:50 mark is one of my favourite moments in the album. Some clever play with words in the lyric "L-O-N-E-L-Why" in the bridge. Sweet guitar loop and the vocal delivery reminds me of their old 2008 songs. Lonely: cool overlapping vocals in the chorus. The instrumental breakdown is one of their career highlights. Started out slow but only got better and better. Dan said it's his favourite song in the album and I can see why.
My Life: HOLY FUCKING SHIT WHAT AN OPENER. There's a ton of variety and influences across the tracklist (pop, rnb, industrial, hip-hop, folk) but all of it still somehow manages to sound cohesive. The mixes are much more raw sounding and there's also much more organic instrumentation. A lot of the extra polishness off their past couple of albums is gone. 'Mercury Act 1' marks a change in sound for the band with Rick Rubin executive producing the record. Note: avoid asking for links to leaks, or linking and directing others to them.
